You can apply for Special Consideration if exceptional circumstances have disadvantaged you in your studies and you need more time to complete an assessment after the end of your course enrolment period.

Special consideration can result in you having more time to complete your course or allow you to transfer to the next available offering of the course.

Apply for your extension first

Before you apply for Special Consideration apply for an assessment extension through My Open Polytechnic. If you need more time past your extension period or past your course end date you can then apply for special consideration.

How to apply for Special Consideration

1. Fill in the Special Consideration form linked to below
2. Make sure you include supporting documentation about your circumstances. Please do not include photographs of injuries etc, as these are not acceptable proof of circumstances.
3. Include your preference for the possible outcome if Special Consideration is approved. The possible outcomes are:
   • an extension of time to complete an assessment or enrolment or,
   • transfer of your enrolment to the next available trimester/offering.

Apply for special consideration

Note: Your enrolment cannot be transferred to another person as it is a legal contract between you and Open Polytechnic.

Special consideration is not available for examinations. Go to the Exam information section for your options.
