Who are our learners?

Our learners are spread throughout New Zealand. They are as varied as the population of our beautiful country. A common goal they all share is to improve their knowledge and skills through online and distance learning.

What our learners look like

  • 29,657 individual learners.
  • 73% were in employment
  • 92% studied with us part time (compared to 63% for the ITP sector*)
  • 11% had no school qualifications
  • 62% were female
  • 17% were Māori
  • 80% were aged 25 years or over (compared to 60% for the ITP sector)

 

What our learners say

  • 93% believe their employers would consider their qualification valuable
  • 87% say their study will be valuable for a future job
  • 97% say their study is valuable for their current job
  • 81% say Open Polytechnic courses are good value for money
  • 92% rated the service they received from the Library and Learning Centre in the range excellent to good
